Can You Keep a Secret / Sophie Kinsella

"Emma is like every girl in the world. She has a few little secrets.

Secrets from her mother:

1. I lost my virginity in the spare bedroom to Danny Nussbaum while Mum and Dad were downstairs watching TV.

… From her boyfriend:

2. I’m a size twelve. Not a size eight, like Connor thinks.

3. I’ve always thought Connor looks a bit like Ken. As in Barbie and Ken.

… From her colleagues:

4. When Artemis really annoys me (which is pretty much every day), I feed her plant orange juice.

5. It was me who jammed the copier that time. In fact, all the times.

…Secrets she wouldn’t share with anyone in the world:

6. My G string is hurting me.

7. I faked my Maths GCSE grade on my CV.

8. I have no idea what NATO stands for. Or even what it is…

…until she spills them all to a handsome stranger on a plane. After all, she’ll never see him again. But on Monday morning, Emma’s office is abuzz about the arrival of Jack Harper, the company’s elusive CEO. Suddenly Emma is face-to-face with the stranger from the plane, a man who knows every single humiliating detail about her. Things couldn’t possibly get worse... Until they do." - Taken from Amazon's product description.

I was very unsure whether or not to write this review since it was rather...different. I did not feel it was worthy of a post, but then I reminded myself that I did enjoy it, despite it not being a Literary Classic. Irritating characters, an unrealistic plot, but all in all this was a romance novel that satisfied my curiosity for a rom-com.

I was in the mood to read a romancy book, and found this quite charming. The characters were adorable and the plot was fun! It was super easy to read; the writing was simple and because of the character's voice I read it quite quickly. I started it a while ago but really enjoyed the simplicity. Hardly suitable for a deep, profound discussion but a fun book to read nonetheless.

At first Emma's character grated on me; I found her rather neurotic and annoying...which is probably why she was so relatable. The speed which she spoke and thought made me read it faster than usual - that and the fact that most of what she said wasn't necessarily important. Yet I still found myself getting excited whenever something good happened to her, rolling my eyes with her at her colleagues, and even falling in love with the love interest with her.

I honestly wish things like falling in love with someone kind, honest, and rich happened in every day life, so this book was a fun escape from the reality of heartbreaks and disappointing relationships. It has definitely given me hope in finding something worth waiting for. Even though Emma was not very kind to Connor - come on lady; it's kinda harsh to be sat there convincing yourself you love the guy. If you have to persuade yourself you're in love with someone...newsflash: you probably aren't. So I lost some respect for Emma for this as well as when she was determined to hire a private investigator to look into Jack, but I guess it all worked out in the end regardless. Emma's family were downright cruel! Fancying her cousin over their own daughter! I come from a massive, loving family, and would hate to have anyone like Kerry even distantly related to me.

Like I said, this book didn't really say much other than it would make a fun movie - which I have recently discovered it is - so there is not much else to say about it. It has inspired me to be myself more and learn to love myself because real love comes from loving who you are. So definitely a star for that. A star for the ease of reading as it was so easy to read, and if you know me, I love a quick book! And another star for the romance because lately I have been really warming up to lovey-dovey stuff.
